We're also looking to replace our old back boiler with a combi boiler and full system. Had a quote comparing this to just replacing some valves.

After a recent service we found our boiler to be illegally wired, no vent and other faults. Worrying.

It has just occurred to me after reading this thread that if we chose to sell in the future we may have to provide proof of service in our Home Inspection Pack. Am I correct in thinking this? If so it would make our decision much easier.

I've had two boiler quotes in the past week (third chap coming this evening).

One of them heavily recommended a combi boiler, and despite switching from a (35 year old) back boiler the price for the combi boiler + a new shower came to £350 less than putting in an equivalent conventional boiler. Same company, same boiler manufacturer, both condensing boilers (so identical work on the flue) same people fitting, but much cheaper for the combi. Strange.

I have a single bathroom property so as long as someone doing the washing up doesn't kill the hot water to the shower I think I should be fine on the flow rate.

What was scary (and thus of interest on this forum) was the price difference between the quotes from two companies.

Both quoted for new boiler, all fitting & pipework, thermostatic radiator valves, new control panel.

Quote from local Corgi registered company I've used before: £2590
Quote from British Gas : £3750 (including "special offer" discount of £500)

I'm really struggling to understand why there's such a big price gap, especially when the quote from the local company includes supplying and fitting a new shower (to replace my existing power shower that runs off the hot water tank).

The only thing I haven't checked (but will do) is whether the local company will deal with all the boiler registration paperwork. If that's done through Corgi then I guess they will.

Be interesting to see what the chap says tonight..
  • Hi,im sorry to jump in as i dont know how to start a new thread!! I had a evo he c22/c24 boiler installed a few months ago. It works fine but the pressure gauge is down to a half. A friend said it should never go below one even when not in use. We top it up at night but by the morning its down to half again. Is this ok? thanks

Good evening: You have a problem...call back your installer as this boiler installation should be under warranty.
