Telecomsworldplc – new charges out of the blue?!

Hi guys
I have a small business, since the crunch I’ve had to downsize and now work from a bedroom at home. I ordered a 0845 number in 2008 to look slightly less tin pot and it cost me the grand sum of £4.95 in total for connection and there was no fee after this.
Now I have an invoice for £5.82 and having spoken to them they said that it’s new charges that BT have put on them that they are in turn passing on to the consumer.
They said they have emailed me to inform me but they haven’t I’ve checked. Can they do this? I know it’s not much but I chose them for exactly this reason, no monthly charge and the only option they have given me is to give up the number I’ve worked hard to put out there in my industry.
Help!

It used to be the case that telecoms providers actually earned money from an 0845 number so they were willing to give out the numbers free. The rules have changed now however so most providers are opting to charge a fee for the use of an 0845 number.0
