Don't know about driving costs as we are flying again this year - the Languedoc is a stunning region to visit - absolutely loads to see and do. We are actually going back for our third visit - once was down near the Spanish border and then last year, we went up to near Beziers. That's where we are heading to again this year - can't wait.0

Not been to languedoc, but we have been to the Vendee, and it's the one region of France I wouldn't like to go back to. I found it quite bland in comparison to other areas TBH.Only dead fish go with the flow...0

im the only driver in the family.....could I do it in a day?0

Hi, have to admit I am biased as live in the Languedoc but I am sure you will find it worth the drive. The drive from Calais takes about 11 hours so you can easily do it in one from the Loire Valley.
there's so much to see and do here, something for everyone. I have a blog for fun which will give an insight to the region. Happy to answer any questions on the Languedoc!0 -
Last year, we were talking to some people who left Calais at around 6am and arrived at the campsite at around 7-8pm that evening. That was with two young kids in the car as well.
Just a thought - have you looked at the distances from Cherbourg down to the Languedoc? Have you looked at Caen - don't then have to drive down the Cotentin peninsula. Where in the UK are you based?0 -
thanks for all your help guys
dangers, based nr birmingham., but have family in kent, so en route to dover we have a free stop over if we want it
to confuse things the loire valley option of a stop over is only there on way down, siblu man said fully booked on way back, but could go to another place begining wtith d which is near paris, or srt ourselves out on way back

Ok - so not much in it really regarding the channel port. We are based in the West Country and would only really consider going from Portsmouth (or Plymouth if we were going to Western Brittany).
I've not been to the Vendee but have heard reports from people who have done both and the Languedoc wins time after time. I notice on your other thread that you were considering campsites in Spain - this will add a few further hours on your journey.0 -
your right mate - soprry for having 2 threads...
ioriginally spain was the destination of choice amongst the family....the site funnily enough says from calais its only about an hour further than languedoc...but to be honest even another hour is enough to make me fink twice...
so its either vindee or languedoc....
never driven abroad before so one thought might be vindee this year which is cheaper, meaning I have £1k of vouchers left for a 2011 trip to languedoc...assuming we like SIBLU which I am sure we will...0
