Survey and Solicitor

My EA wants to know my solicitor as soon as possible and keeps phoning me up about it but I am waiting for the survey to come through before contacting a solicitor to prevent costs if I wish to withdraw from the sale if the survey brings up anything wrong with the house.

Am I doing right here or should I get the ball rolling by contacting a solicitor?

    You can certainly contact a solicitor and give the agent their details. The solicitor won't actually do anything until you've properly instructed them by signing an engagement letter and paying an amount up front - but it's perfectly fine to give the agent their details.

    If the survey is bad and you pull out, you can just tell the solicitor to hang fire until you find another property.

    Worth doing just to get the agent off your back.

    Aren't there some solicitors who only charge when the deal is done - no deal, no pay? I know somebody who is using one.
