I know that I can ignore these people but my problem is although the car is mine I hadn't registered it in my name at that point (docs got lost). The garage I bought it from is being hassled by the then registered owner as TPS are hassling him. Can I tell TPS that I was the owner without creating problems. Also as I'm bankrupt would they get any money anyway ?

Don't tell TPS anything - you have no legal obligation to tell them anything!!"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Presumably the issue is regarding a private parking 'invoice' in which case totally ignore.
It is/was the previous RKs responsibility to inform DVLA that he/she had disposed of the vehicle-let them deal with it without any assistance from you.
I take it that in any event you have since informed DVLA that you are now the RK.
I certainly wouldn't contact TPS in any way, shape or form & certainly wouldn't inform them that you are now the RK - why on earth should you?0 -
Thank you both for your replies.I am now the RK. The previous owner is elderly and disabled and I don't want them to be hassled. The garage where I bought the car has been giving me grief over this but has obviously and rightly passed my name on to Tps,it is private parking.0

The garage may well have breached the DPA by informing TPS of your name and address."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
