Money coming out my bank that no-one knows where from!!

Hi there
Hoping someone might be able to help.
I just checked my online banking and noticed 2 amounts coming out an account I only use for the purpose of child benefit getting paid into, nobody else has this account number as I never give it out.
First is £25 for an arrestment fee, other is £137.10 for a court order.
Now I have never been summoned to court nor have I had any letters about this. Called up online banking and all they know is the same details I know, and they dont know where it has came from. My branch isnt open untill 11 due to training, but girl in the call center said they will only be able to see the same info as what she can!
What can I do???? Obviouslly I dont know where this has came from, its not taken me overdrawn but its a large amount of £162.10 so I cant just write this off and forget about it!!
Help!!! Please

The £25 is showing as a "charge" and the arrestement fee is showing as "funds transfer"
    Thanks

It could be that a court order has been made against someone with a similar name to you. As a result, your account has been arrested. Could you ask the bank which sheriff's court made the order, so that you are able to speak to the court and put things right. Also ask the bank to provide you with a copy of the order.

I'm not very with all the oddities of Scottish law, but I believe the creditor will send the order to one of your banks first, to see if they can get hold of all the money before they then send it onto other banks.

According to this website ( http://www.govanlc.com/benefits_&_bankarrestment.htm ), it is not possible to arrest money in a bank account which has come from benefits.
  • It could also be the bank's mistake if they've miskeyed the account number e.g. transposed two digits.

I'm in Scotland and many years ago I had my bank account frozen due to non-payment of poll tax (I was a can't pay, not just a won't pay!) I didn't receive any prior notice. I only knew when I went to get some money out.

Thank you, that link is very very helpful!!

Eventually found out what it was, I got a parking ticket 3 years ago and I disputed it. Didnt hear back so assumed they had wrote it off. I moved house a year ago, they had tried to write to me and as I didnt reply they took me to court. Obviously I didnt show up as I didnt know about it as letter went to my old adress. So they done a search for my bank and found it, and for taking the money out they have to leave me with at least £300 after the court order has came out. So because I had less than £300 in my main account this one would of had more than £300 left after the court order had come out so they took it from there. When I queried data protection etc they said they are a legal body and can take money when they like without having to notify you first!! I was totally shocked at this! Surly this isnt right! They were allowed acess to how much money I had in my accounts and were able to take from it without informing me first?? If they had acess to my bank they would of been able to know my current adress wouldnt they?
So am I right in thinking I can claim that money back , using the above link, as its come out an account thats soley made of child benefit?
