    If your offer was only £1-2k more than the other one and the other party is progressing, that's not a compelling reason for the lender to switch horses.

    There is a moral and legal requirement for them to get the best for their client. If I was the former owner, I'd want to know that the lender got the best deal for me.

    I'd have completed by the end of March and it will be interesting to see the Land Registry sale price and date.

    The moral side of this can be dealt with by the lenders forgiving £1-2k of the amount outstanding on the loan, which is not a big deal for the lenders as I expect that most of these outstanding amounts prove impossible to collect in any case.
