    Happy Christmas Everyone.:p

Just out of coincidence, our J & S boiler is 28 years old. We are having it replaced in January with a new one. I have posted on this link originally and the chap who lives at the back of our house is a J & S warm air specialist - we live near Northampton and he has done various courses there and so is a real whizz.

Although there is nothing majorly wrong with the old system (it is working just not brilliantly), I think the time has just come to change it - we are doing loads of stuff in the house at the moment and just thought let's just do all the stuff at the same time. He is coming to do a survey next week but we think it will be about £3,000 odd. This includes the actual boiler (apparently it gots air conditioning WOO!!), all the pipework and a new hot water tank.

I know loads of people slate the warm air but I actually quite like it - no radiators taking up space. In fact I know a lady who has radiators but would rather have warm air - she is American where it is all the range out there.

The home insurance or life insurance would not be void if the boiler blew up, no doubt you are aware he was talking bull but no doubt this probably scared your mother.
I suspect BG would point to this sort of clause in an insurance policy (taken from Direct Line in this case). They'd no doubt argue there is risk on older "condemned" boilers:
    2 Preventing loss
You must take all reasonable steps to:
    a) prevent any loss, damage or accident; and
    b) maintain the insured property in good condition and repair

I in no way support their scare tactics, but I can see how they get away with it.

We have ( I think on ours , its 14 years old) but it only circulates air , not cools it , So we don't bother.
If yours really does 'cool' can we have all details and a progress report in the spring.

Just to wrap up. A couple of months ago mum got the independent boiler engineer round who stripped the boiler down, testing each component as he removed them and found a circuit board defective. Replacement part ordered and now fitted the boiler works fine, it wasn't a cheap part but more importantly she felt confident about the work carried out, an explanation of how each part worked in a way she could understand as well as the engineer showing confidence in what he was doing. Very satisfied customer especially as they will do an annual service for a very reasonable price. Just proves going to a smaller independent company sometimes pays off. :j

I have a J & S warm air system and it is brilliant. Many of the houses round me have been "persuaded" that a radiator system is much better - wrong ! The warm air system is just as efficient (some sites say it is more efficient than a wet system) and doesn't clutter the rooms with radiators.

I have found J & S to be very helpful on the phone, they gave me the phone of a fairly local "expert" - but to be honest, if the electronics are not giving any problems then any registered gas man can do a perfectly adequate service. There are just two large burners and a fan inside - that is about it............ and another burner and a couple of water pipes if you have your water heater in the same cabinet.

My only "complaint" was the rather agricultural time switch on the thing. I sat down with the cct diagram and worked out how to install a modern electronic controller, with 7 daily programmes, advance, boost, etc - fitted it myself, took less than 2 hours. If any one is interested I can supply details of how to do it. Most modern single channel controllers are suitable.
    I used this one:
