RPZ (Resident Parking Zones). Bristol say no, but

But you don't pay road tax - you pay vehicle excise duty
It's nothing to do with the road itself any more, it's about big bad cars and their effect on the environment / lining MP's expenses accounts.
It amounts to the same thing, " Road Tax " has always been another form of general taxation.0 -
Why? You didn't buy a section of the public highway, so you don't own it, others have exactly the same rights as residents, as I have said before, if you must have a guaranteed parking space, buy a house with a driveway.
Sorted.;)
I get that but it's too simplistic in terms of parking management. Parking has a bigger effect and it is more difficult than simply stating 'don't live there without a driveway' as then you have huge areas of towns and cities where people won't live in because parking is unreliable and it is the same for local shops and businesses.
In my view local people should have more rights to park than commuters who can often park elsewhere and are avoiding charges.0 -

your right inactive, im looking at buying a house soon, i would love a city centre apartment but due to needing space to park at least one car and a van i have to rule it out. so i'll buy something in a suburban area with a driveway (and hopefully a nice big double garage)....work permit granted!0 -

...and local residents cannot park somewhere else?
Or just think that they own a part of the public highway.
Perhaps authorities should insist on each car having an off road parking space before allowing ownership, that would sort things.:)0 -

They do in Japan, but modern developments in the UK do insist on it.
Britain is old- parts of our towns and cities pre-date the car and RPZ are just a way of adapting these areas to ration parking to the community and allow it to function without commuters filling the streets.
I don't think they own the highway since most RPZ include areas for meter parking. Basically they just get a discounted season ticket rather than P+D all the time.
Equally I don't have a problem of RPZ around stadiums to- why should local residents be disturbed and trapped in their homes every time a game for thousands is on?0 -

I bet the " stadium " was there before they were, so the chose to move there knowing that there was a stadium on their door step...tough.:):)0
