Unable to upgrade to LTSB Platinum online?

Been doing some research and the LTSB's Platinum current account seems to be the most suitable added value account for me (compared with other offerings). I've checked all the small print and it works out better for my needs.

I'm not planning to upgrade yet as waiting for my existing travel insurance and breakdown cover to expire in a couple of months. However, when I log in to my online banking (am an existing customer), the only option I can upgrade to is the Silver account which doesn't provide sufficient cover for me. I'm thinking that I could simply call or visit my branch and ask for an upgrade to Platinum. Anyone able to confirm this?

I would have thought the AVAs would be available to all (considering we're paying for it!); just the interest free overdraft would be subject to status - which it clearly says.

  • Hi choc_mouse,

I think the reason is that you can do it only gradually, i.e. you can upgrade only to the next available one online, in your case, the Silver account.

However, you can simply give them a call and they'll do it for you – upgrading is easy (for downgrading you'd have to pop into the branch and listen to a long speech about why you shouldn't do it).

I used to have the Platinum one and then downgraded it after a couple of months, as I realised it wasn't really worth the 17 pounds I was paying each month. But you should definitely try, if you want to, it might give you more satisfaction than the one you have right now.

    Best wishes

OP, you can upgrade online, it's just not as obvious. When you click the "Upgrade" link next to your account you are presented with a page suggesting upgrade to Silver, however if you look at the bottom of the screen you will see:-
We also have a range of other accounts available - view our other accounts.
The latter part of the sentence is a link which takes you to a page with all the other AVA's, just select "Upgrade" beside the one you want.

You can downgrade over the phone - they still attempt retention, but after an objection they are obliging.
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.

Thanks, but even after clicking on the "We also have a range of other accounts available - view our other accounts" link, it only lists the silver account...

Yep, all accounts are subject to your status with the bank.
