  • I'm in the process of having my back boiler replaced with a wall mounted combi. Got a very good quote from local company, £2300 to include 6 replacement radiators and supply & fit new shower. Got a quote from British Gas who quoted 3 times the price. I applied for the £400 boiler scrappage voucher and it arrived within a few days. Just got to arrange the installation now, hopefully for easter when the weather has improved.

This is palpable nonsense from HM Government....just like the car scrappage scheme.

People are dumping perfectly good boilers often in favour of very expensive, high tech boilers which cost more to maintain, dont last as long and often dont deliver what people want/need anyway.

There is no account taken of carbon emissions to produce new boilers and dispose of old ones.
    Maintenance costs
Excessive network strain/wastage of gas by inefficient combi boilers.

Many people would fare better spending money on insulation and wearing appropriate clothing for the season.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Still running a Triumph Spitfire with lead replacement petrol I suppose?

My plumber told me to replace the old boiler five+ years ago, which is easily thirty years old. All I can say is, thank you very much for the £400.

I only wish I kept my R-reg Peugeot 406 for three more years.
I got £1,000 trading it in in 2006, thinking it wouldn't be worth anything soon. Three more years, and it would have been worth £2,000.

Things don't last forever. Eventually repairs bill mount up.

I think what you say is true and would definitely apply to those who don't think about saving money but on moneysavingexpert forums I think you've got to give people a little more credit.

Thumbs up to wearing extra layers etc :)

we got few quotes from different companies to get our boiler replace and flush the system, also adding the Magnaclean...

One thing I am not certain is the scrappage scheme voucher .... can i apply one now or do I need a finalised quote from one company before I can apply ?

We applied for a voucher ages ago because our boiler falls within the scheme, but haven't heard anything since then. Therefore presume we weren't lucky in the scrappage scheme lottery.

just searched throught the direct.gov.uk site it said
    • your full name and contact details
    • the address and details of the property you wish to claim the grant for
    • the make and model name of the boiler being scrapped
    • the company name, address, registration number and contact details of the boiler fitter who will do the work
    • the type of boiler to be installed, for example gas or biomass

I am missing "company name, address, registration number and contact details of the boiler fitter who will do the work" , so i think i cant really apply for one now, cos we havent made up our mind which company/plumber to go with:A:A

Well if it is any consolation, we did fill in all of that information and still didn't get a voucher:mad: A complete waste of time.
