But it isn't. It's one of the many American 'articles' which has been re-branded as British, with the odd tweak here and there ('spousal abuse' - which is distinctively American usage - being changed to 'spouse abuse'; the original reference to '117' who have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses being changed to '17').
Of course, the fact that this particular article/email isn't directly tied to the House of Commons doesn't mean that the members are all whiter than white :rotfl:
As for the London Gazette (and the other regional variations) I think that, as others have said, the rise of the internet is a factor here. In the old days (I imagine!
), the Gazettes were only read by creditor organisations and such like. They probably had a subscription, and put the newest recruit on the task of reading through it!
The chances of someone stumbling across the name of someone they knew were probably very very small. The internet has changed that, and maybe the system needs to be looked at in that light. Ideally resulting in some change.0 -

I did think that the percentages that were up to something were too low:rotfl:Hi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.
Please note that any views i put forth are not those of my former employer The Insolvency Service and do not constitute professional advice, you should always seek professional advice before entering insolvency proceedings.0 -
'Public information' or 'public record' does have limitations. The Data Protection Act in line with The Human Rights Act 1998 (along with the ECHR) state that it must be 'responsible', it must be 'proportionate' and 'it must be in the public interest'... yes, the London Gazette can hold records of any individual but there is the issue of 'privacy'... mainly you have a right to privacy, home and family life. This is really important in law and I think (and it won't be me) there is a possible legal challenge. It affects your status throughout your life and it's not 'proportionate' and serves no public interest. Anyone willing to challenge the law?0

Unfortunately it will take a colossal amount of money.
And as bankrupts we don't have the resources.0 -
This makes me really mad!! Someone who is or has been barkrupt, has not broken the law and is not a criminal, but are most certainly treated as criminals in the UK. Who do the London Gazette think they are?? The police are not interested in me if I am or have been bankrupt, but this vile publication seems intent on publically humiliating bankrupts for eternity!! It must be stopped - bankrupts need to have the same civil rights as anyone else who has gone through a civil court hearing in the UK - anonymity!! !!!!!!!s!!:j Goodbye debt - Hello sanity! :j0

bankrupt, not 'barkrupt' hee:D:j Goodbye debt - Hello sanity! :j0 -
Why not write a letter to your local MP about this issue?0

I dont know if they work but i know you can start a petition on the Number 10 website maybe that would be worth ago? I wonder if a news paper would be willing to pick it up then and run with it as alot of people have become bankrupt due to the banks and it seems like a hot subject at the moment. Just a thought?:cheesy: K2nga :cheesy:

Jellygirl, I so agree with you on this, I have noticed since going BR that we are treated more like criminals than criminals!!
I could go and commit a crime, do the time, and after so many years not even have to declare it, and it doesn't show anywhere, there isn't a paper that lists all the murderers and rapists is there?
They get the right to anonymity so why can't we?
And don't get me started on the insurance side of things!
It might be worth doing one of those petition things as k2nga suggests, who wants to start it?!0 -
I dont mind starting it but it would be good to get help on the wording of the petition as i am rubbish at that.:cheesy: K2nga :cheesy:
