Broken Boot lock!
Hey everyone, minor but annoying problem.
I have a Mark 3 golf, v reliable, never gives me any trouble at all, even though theres 170,000+ miles on the clock!
However...During the big freeze, I think some water must have gotten into the boot lock and frozen, so its now broken, and I cant get the boot open.
Does anyone know anywhere local around Liverpool/North West where I could get this fixed. Its probably a really simple thing, but I dont fancy taking it to the dealership to get it sorted and be charged a fortune!
(ps the centeal locking is also broken now for over a year as well, if anyone knows any reputable repairers for this sort of thing I would appreciate it)
Thanks
Mark

I had something similar recently with my Peugeot 307. Managed to open it after liberal spraying with WD40, but it seized up again after not being opened for a couple of weeks. The independent garage I use replaced the lock for about £35.00.0

WD40 sprayed in a lock = seriously bad idea. I also had a lock break after using WD40. Apparently it makes locks tend to collect grit etc which damages the lock. I think it's no coincidence both me and previous poster used WD40 and the lock broke soon after.
The thing to use is fine graphite powder. This can be got off ebay or from ironmongers.
The central locking could be as simple as a fuse.
My car doesn't even have a lock on the tailgate, just a release by the driver's seat (cheapskates - lol).0 -
I've got a mk3 Golf estate and the boot lock recently stuck.
I climbed into the boot with a stanley knife and cut a hole in the plastic trim so I could get to the mechanism.
They use an air pipe to operate the locking actuator. In my case it looked like the operating linkage had come out of its plastic connector. So I covered it all in grease and put it back together and it works fine now.
Get a local garage to look at it.
In my case I'm going to source a replacement trim panel from the scrap yard sometime.Happy chappy0 -

why didnt you remove the plastic trim a few screws and some plaitic clips and its off. you wouldnt have that hole in it then and hunt a scrappy for one.
ask around a motor factors for a reputable decently priced auto lecky to have a look at the central locking, if you want to repair it.0 -

i think the screws are at the edges,so the boot would need to be open to access the screws....work permit granted!0 -

.
Maybe because you can't get to the clips that hold it on when the door is closed, and I couldn't open it because the lock was stuck.Happy chappy0
