Best way to achieve cheap raised beds

  • Might I respectfully suggest that four spikes and a small piece of wood might alleviate the problem, PeteW? If you set up the cut pieces as though for the long side, put a spike about 6" away from the cut edge, on both inside and outside, with an 18"/2' piece of spare wood on the inside, beneath the inside spikes, then you'd end up with a very stable side all the same. It worked for us.

    Hope that helps someone.

Maybe they would deliver for a few quid, as not many people woulde be able to get them home without cutting them.

Well that was easy - first one I phoned was happy to sort me out with some 13 footers for a pound each!

Only problem is I need to work out how to transport them! I don't think my car boot is quite that big!

    Hi

Can you let me know where you got them from as everywhere I'm calling dont have any.

I'm in Surrey too, so would be a great help.

    Thanks

I got them from DAG Scaffolding in Guildford, though I'm afraid I took the last ones they had.

As I'm only a mile down the road from them, the yard manager agreed to drop them off in return for a few quid for a couple pints.

So I ended up paying £20 for 156 foot of timber delivered - can't argue with that!
  • Anyone know of legislation that prevents scaffolders from supplying old boards? The ones I'm ringing (round Nottingham) say they are not allowed to supply them. I am making it clear that its for gardening, not scaffolding.

Has anyone had cheap boards round Nottingham?

I guess technically they could be breaching waste disposal rules by disposing of them without getting the relevant certification prepared to show they haven't just been dumped in a field somewhere, and/or to show nothing hazardous has been dumped without proper treatment.
