Insurance - change of vehicle

She can cancel but as it's an existing policy she won't get much money back. A policy doesn't become new just because of a change of car.
That is what they appear to have done. She only took out the policy end of January with her old car after being given a very good quote but only two weeks later when she found a new car and updated her insurace they not only hicked the price up but the end date of the policy is now 9th Feb 2011 and not the original start date.0 -
Are you with Budget or one of their group of cmpanies?0

Get the fees for cancellation.
There will almost certainly be some admin fees and some charges for insurance already used, but if they really are charging so much, it may still be cheaper to cancel.
If the fees and charges are in line with guidelines and what her policy says (which she was provided up front to read) then there is nothing she can do.
It's just a case of working out which is cheapest.
If it really is very uncompetitive then she would probably be best off cancelling, but she should not expect that to be free.
People have done work becasue of her changin her car and they don't work for free.
Think I'll give them a ring for her tomorrow and get a breakdown of everything sent out and find out how much it will cost to cancel.
I am very shocked myself that it costs so much to change a vehicle on an existing policy. You would expect some increase with a newer car, but not double what you were paying and what it would cost for a new policy elsewhere. I have the same car myself and don't pay anywhere near what they are asking and my sister has more years of no claims than me the only difference is she is a few years younger!0 -

I doubt they'll give you much unless your sister gives express permission because of the data protection act....0 -

I do that for my mum sometimes and she just gives her permission and gets them to call me....
