Vauxhall Corsa CV Boots?

Went to Kwik Fit today for 2 new front tyres ahead of service and MOT in a few week's time. When I returned to collect the car the guy told me the 2 front CV boots were leaking grease all over and onto the brakes!

This was the last thing I expected to hear as the car is less than 3 years old with 23k miles on it.

Surely this will still be covered under my 3 year warranty? I got home and had a look under the car and yep, there's black/greeny coloured gunk all over the wheel rims!

Has anyone else had similar problems, and is anyone able to confirm whether this will be covered under warranty? Kwik-fit said it would cost £150+ to repair?

You need to read the small print in your car warranty, see if they are covered or not.

I wouldn't put it past Kwik Fit to have damaged them whilst your car was in there.:(

How could Kwik Fit have damaged the CV boots, aside from deliberately?

I had my CV boots done for £60 (£30 per side) at Kwik Fit and was pleased with the workmanship - only went there because I knew the centre manager at the time to be very competent.
  • ask the dealer that you have the warranty with to see if they look like they have been cut , if the grease is still greenish that would suggest its still fresh / recent
22864 quid and counting , but now proud to be dealing with it :j

cant comment on warranty you would have to check your documents or main dealer. £150+ sounds extortionate to mefor a pair of C.V boots and fitting, boots are not at all expensive, what sounds even more suspicious is that both sides are leaking C.V boots do not tend to both go at the same time, and with the mileage your car has done i wouldnt expect them to go at all. Is (not so) kwick-fit sure they have split or cracked and not just leaking because the clips are not tight enough! i would ask the main dealer to inspect the boots for signs of tamper i.e cut marks in the boot or they have split in the common locations.

and i agree that if the grease is still shiny greeny black its still fresh and recent. do not take back to kwick fit go to your main dealer to have a scope on them.

You obviously have a very different Kwik-Fit to my local one, I would not trust them with my garden wheelbarrow.

One of their ex employees was telling us about the tricks that they get up to with customers cars, it all sounded very plausible.

a quick fit local to me wrote off a customers car, aparently the car was only in for wipers and tyre changes, the owner left it there as she had to work, funny enough the car wasnt wrote off in the centre but 4 miles away! figure that one out?

i wouldnt trust quick fit to change a house hold light bulb and if they tried it would take four of the engineers to do so!!!!

heard lots of horror stories when i was in the motor factors trade god they used to buy parts from my ex employer as they are IFA registered, they never bought good decent pads or discs or exhausts but the cheap n nasty's in wich we had to buy in from other suppliers as we didnt stock the low quality items.
  • if it needs cv boots then i would be giving this a go, watch the video in the listing.

yes i used this tip for years but used a soft traffic cone top so it would was easier fitting the less fleixible boots and greased the cone with vaseline then wiped away the vasiline on the boot with alchohol wipes. most cv boots are flexible depending on the brand. some cars you just cant do it this way and removal of the joint is required.

to do the inner boots i think you would need to remove them.

nope instead of turning the boot inside out to put it on you just simply keep the right way and push over the joint. no need to remove the outer cv joint to place a boot on the inner.
