Orange Broadband - Wireless Problems

Hi guys, I am just wondering if anyone has Windows Vista and has had problems trying to configure orange broadband wirelessly on their PC's/laptops?

My mum/sister's laptops were working originally but they now cannot connect wirelessly, only by having the wire plugged into them which is obviously very annoying.

I have tried all the pointers/advice on their website and wonder if anyone could offer any help?

Cheers in advance

  • After having connected three laptops wirelessly to Orange I know how you are feeling. Firstly do you have a Live Box? I take it you have done the connect to internet part and added your WEP key, this can take several attempts in my experience but persevere with it and it should work. If all else fails then contact Ornage as they were really helpful when I did my Dad's and were able to work things from their end and problem solved!

The Orange Box supplied to us never installed properly - despite hours talking to Orange techies. They were ultimately as much use as a chocolate fireguard and accused us of lying about the box not working even though they admitted that they couldn't "see" it at their end. So, after about 20 install attempts we gave up. Orange insisted there was nothing wrong with the box but wouldn't replace it so its still gathering dust in the corner. We ripped it out, reinstalled the old wireless router and it worked first time. Frankly I wouldn't touch the Orange Box now if you paid me and I certainly wouldn't install the extra Orange files which serve no practical purpose and certainly add nothing to your connectivity or anything else. We've been with them now just over a year and have had no other issues since reverting to our old router.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

do you have Windows Vista? I can't stand using it compared to XP!!

Yes, we have a live box.. It is the part where we add the WEP key that seems 2 cause the trouble - it as though it can't pick it up even though it's right next to the box. From experience I wanted 2 avoid calling their customer services as I find them very slow and frustrating 2 get things resolved but if all else fails then I will give them another go.
  • I have XP on my desktop and vista on my laptop, although I haven't really done any work on vista, tend to use it only for internet so can't compare it really.
The suggestions that the other poster has given above is very good although all I would add is if the WEP doesn't work straight away keep trying because as I said before it can take several attempts. Also you probably already know but make sure you entr your number in capitals and the ones with lines through are numbers not letters and you don't put spaces even though that's how it shows you on the live box. Hope you get sorted soon.

Hi guys thanks for all of your advice. I changed the settings to WPA only and this now seems to recognise that the live box is there and has the right connection settings however, when i am on the network and sharing centre it has a red X between the unidentified network and the internet which i think is causing the problem of no web pages to load. on the actual connection it says "signal strength excellent" - i am really confused now - is there anything i can do?

I am having the same problem with my work laptop. Signal strength is excellent and I can go online for about 5 minutes and then it says page cannot be displayed even though signal strength is still excellent.

    It is so frustrating
