Car repair chaos

Options
Hi, recently a friend backed into my 55 plate car and damaged the front wing. We agreed to deal outside the insurance, and my wing was to be replaced, fixing all damage. I've recieved my car back it's not a mess, but I am not too happy that it has only been filled and sprayed, and a small crease is still slighty visible. Before the car went in, I took footage of the damage on my mob phone and now I'm wondering whether am can pursue this through my insurance, as I feel I have already given them the benefit of saving themselves money at my expense. I have not contacted my insurance company as yet. Thanks for any help in advance.

Are you saying you let them take it away and get it repaired?
  • If you are not satisfied with the quality of repair then take it back to the repairer for rectification.

I suspect you and your friend agreed not to involve the insurers so as not to affect your friends NCB. Though you might be a kind hearted person who wants insurance companies to be as profitable as possible.

There are posters on here who will be able to give advice as to whether or not it is still possible to go through the insurers. One will be along soon.
  • I dropped it off one morning and collected it next afternoon, but the time I collected, it was left outside with keys at security.
  • Did you instruct regarding the repair or did your friend? Was the instruction to the garage that they should replace the wing or just repair it?

If the garage did the wrong thing then return to them, if it was your friend who changed the deal (if you had a specific deal that the wing would be replaced not repaired) then you need to talk to your friend.

I suspect the insurers will not really want to be involved now...

This may sound harsh, but it seems your " friend " isn't really much of a friend.

Probably too late to involve insurers now, I would guess your only option is to have the new wing fitted and sort out who is going to pay for it.
  • i would say its too late to inform insurers of the incecdent as its been repaired may not be to your standard in wich case if you instructed the repairer or friend to replace the panel and it has not been done i would take to garage or ask your friend to take you to the repairer and ask him to do it again. as theres a noticeable crease in it.
