changing your name by deed poll on your accounts

I have a 3 mobile account, abbey current account, vanquis card and three catalogue accounts.

I am thinking of returning to my birth name following sorting out a family dispute which has gone on for too long.

My question is this when I send a copy of my deed poll to these firms will my account history stay the same from the account being opened or will they start a fresh under my name but show when the account opens from.

So for example 4th april 2009 I opened a catalogue at the moment it has 9mths or so history, when I change it will it show account opened then maybe 1 mth then continue month to month or show the full history?.

Also does this change of name affect me when I apply for credit in the future?

  • I changed my name by deed poll and just wrote to everyone who I had an account with enclosing a copy of the deed poll. All they did was change my name on their systems. Kept the same account numbers. Nothing changed except the name on the account.

Some organisations want to see certified copies of the deed poll or the original. You can get a solicitor to certify copies for you. They will charge (usually around £5).
