Problems with House

I know this is really draft but lately we are having a few problems in our house - we have three toilets and within the past two weeks, they have all had problems with them or broken. I have had to call the plumber out today regarding another toilet and he has confirmed that this one has now broken.

I am so fed up with the whole thing and am now really nervous to be in the house on my own in case something else goes wrong - I never used to feel like this until a few weeks ago when things started to go wrong. We have lived in our house for five years and this is the first time that things have started breaking - so really not too bad.

I suppose to I just want reassurance that other people have problems in their houses - I know that they do - and that the problems I am experiencing are really quite minor.

Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.

How old is your house? Were all the toilets installed at the same time, and are they the same type? Maybe you're just being unlucky that they're all breaking at the same time.

You really don't want to know the problems we've had with our house. I thought it was jinxed after we moved in!

Btw, I fixed the toilet in out old house more than once. I had my trusty B&Q DIY book and the internet and had the cistern off the wall (i'm not DIY inclined). It was really satisfying knowing that i'd fixed it myself and probably saved a wee fortune. :)

Hi there. Thanks for your reply. Our house is about 30 years old. We moved in five years ago and changed two of the toilets out of three. They are all different, yes. That is exactly what our plumber has said - that we are just unlikely - I'm started to get really paranoid about things in the house now though - I never used to be like that. :o

There's really no point in worrying about something that might happen sometime. Worry about it IF and when it happens. Worry is a waste of energy. :)

Think positive - at least you have a house - and another 2 toilets to use if one breaks down. ;)

if it makes you feel better i shall try to list all of the things gone wrong in my house in the last couple of years
just so you know your not paranoid

decided to pave back garden (cos i hate cutting grass) and build wall around it cos the fence was falling down
ran outta money with 10 feet of wall to go (still havent finished the wall)

had to wall off the front garden as again fence was broken
at the grand cost of nearly £2000 (very long wall and double wall to boot)
8 months later someone crashes into it and breaks a 12 foot chunk down, they never hung around to let me know who they were and i could not be bothered claiming on ins
this wall still not fixed and now there is a lampost right in front of it!!!

cold water feeder tank was metal and rusting
it holed out and a lot of water upstairs (is now plastic)

hot water feeder tank is also rusting am planning to replace before it holes out but who knows if that will happen

had to put new washers on all the taps in a 2 month period.

central heating valve decided to stick shut last winter, was rather cold

someone nicked to lead from my porche bit outside

someone else decided my wheelie bin would make a great fire and it melted over my newly paved back garden, had to move paving slabs around so it not noticable.

painted window frames last year to make sure they last until i get new windows and had to virtually replace the downstairs window frame with car body filler

    painted a window shut!!!

a stone thrown at bathroom window by unknown person cracked the window and i aint replaced that either, it has a pretty star shape in it now.

had to replace toilet flush system and had to get someone in to figure out why the loo has been leaking for ages. over flow and a nut tightening fixed that

need to replace hot water cylinder (and heating in general eventually)

there is a nasty leak under the floor (concrete) is yuck to walk on the carpet barefoot in that spot.

i have teenagers(nothing to do with house just a moan)

have had a pigeon in my kitchen

a spare cat in the house (it got upstairs and carped )

    wasp nest

cant control the front garden so have given up

a mate drove his car onto my drive and holed the sump
oil all over the drive and his car sat there for 6 months til he could afford to fix it.

    i wonder why i bother
have painted a bit of the back wall then ran out of paint (its not paint its spackly stuff but i dont know the name and you kind of plaster it on)
so there is 10 feet short of wall and 10 feet short of painted wall

think my house is a work of art in the making
    63 mortgage payments to go.

    >we are having a few problems in our house<

Can't do any harm to ask the local Roman Catholic priest round, in case there are poltergeists which are causing the problems. Better safe than sorry....

its always fun at my house

the pigeon was ringed (i think thats the word)
and it popped in to the kitchen last summer
i could not see the ring so i was terrified if i startled it it would fly around all panicked and poop all over
so i am telling the kids to get the door shut so its only in one room (less damage)
it waddled to the cat food had a peck and eventually waddled back outside.
pretty glad the cat never saw it

was like out of a comedy sketch

"kids there is a pigeon in the kitchen"
    "you what"
"there is a pigeon in the kitchen" "close the door"
"eh did you say a pigeon?"
    "in the kitchen yes"
    "lemme see, lemme see"
"ok you have seen now close the door so it doesnt fly into the room"

    hilarious if you were there
