Nah, it's something like Visual Web Developer (I think). It's one of their freebie Express versions.

Visual web dev is very good BUT its focus is asp.net and thus its aimed at programmers.

While I would reccomend it just for the ide, but as a beginner you might get confused with the .net stuff if you just want to play around with html.
  • Hi there,

I've used AceHTML before for editing webpages. They do a free version which will do all you need including syntax highlighting and a lot more. You can also work with ASP and PHP code on there too!

With regards to learning, as someone mentioned already W3 Schools is a good start, I've also found HTML Dog a good site, plenty of tutorials on HTML and also covers CSS (useful for page layouts and lots more!)

    Hope this helps!

Microsoft do a reasonable free one. Just can't quite remember what it's called but Google should find it.

Web Design can mean different things to different people. Usually it is either the visual side or the coding/programming side.

For the coding side I personally use Eclipse with the PDT addon, but that is more for dynamic web pages such as PHP. It's probably not for the light-hearted but it's one of the most powerful editors out there.

For visual design I honestly just go on google and search for a free CSS/HTML template! I haven't got the patience or the mindset to go through all those fiddly CSS properties :)
  • So much to work with here ... THANKS! I see I can get Dreamweaver on an educational package - albeit for £84. Still confused, but will do some serious research regarding the suggestions as above. I think that my son would probably find it easier to work with a graphical interface initially before looking at HTML paste-up language. Still, I don't really know what I'm talking about .... so am probably wrong!
    HUGE THANKS AGAIN ... EVERYBODY!!
