HI there
Does anyone know of any websites that offer advice/forums for building/plans advice?? We are looking at extending our home and would love to chat to others in same situation and get advice etc before we go ahead!

With extensions, I always suggest that you think in terms of what extra room you require and what you propose to do in the rooms. Then your requirements are turned into a design based on what you want/need and what space you have to achieve it. Don't concentrate on specifics at this stage - that's the designers job
There may be planning contraints and there may be compromises due to cost. So then with your requirements, and considering what local planning policy will let you do, and how much you want to spend, you then reach a suitable design
You could also start by looking at the neighbours extensions where you live to get an idea of what can be done.
One thing to remember is that a cheap/poor design can cost you more to build. The designer should design with efficiency so that you achieve what you want as cheaply as possible0 -
I didn't really use websites when I did an extension, but I did find the Haynes manual for building extensions by far the best book on the subject. I'd recommend it to anyone thinking of extending.0
