MBNA credit cards

Hello folks, im new to this forum, so for a start, HELLO :) , i look forward to hearing your replys.
I have a question regarding MBNA credit cards.
There is a credit card i want to apply for simply because it supports a charity i love and support, yet alot of cards on the market, no matter who your applying to are issued by MBNA. Who is it that makes the application for the card, MBNA or the charity/company that you are apply with.
My problems is that i had an alliance and leicster credit card before they were taken over by santander and the issuer was MBNA but now A&L are now Santander my card is no longer with A&L and is now MBNA, and i was wishing to transfer my balance to the new charity card if this is possible.
Can anyone advise please.
Thanks.

If you a apply for one of the card you mentioned then it is MBNA who will consider your application. As far as I know nothing is stopping you having 2 MBNA credit card but I don't think that you will be able to balance transfer between the 2 MBNA credit card. But they are plenty of Credit Card company other than MBNA giving to charity, why do you want a MBNA?
  • Hello, and thanks for the reply. The specfic charity i wish to support only has an MBNA credit card. I can go for another card, but i would have liked to support this charity first.

To be honest I think that your money would go much further if you gave them some money directly.
  • the trick with MBNA is to over pay every now and then.
  • absolutely agree - giving money to MBNA is like giving money to the !!!!!. I wrote to the National Trust, of which I am a member, complaining that their products are underwritten by such a disreputable and predatory organisation.

Trouble is that they hide behind charities and reputable organisations because their own branding is so tarnished.

Definitely make your donations direct to your chosen charity - use tax relief rules to boost the donation, and get a credit card from ANYONE but MBNA (or Virgin - who are ...yes you guessed it... fronting for MBNA...but Branson is more cuddly and trendy than they are..).

The charity benefits...and you won't get ripped off...

A+L card is with Santander, and your charity card is with MBNA.

You can have both, and transfer balances between them no problem.

As for supporting your charity of choice, as other people have said on here it would be better to give the cash direct to the charity in question and use "Gift Aid" every penny goes to them and not MBNA or the Government.

A+L used to use MBNA for their card issuer until they moved to Santander, and when they swapped to Santander, MBNA retained my credit card account, not A+L, so my credit card is now directly with MBNA.

Thanks everyone for your answers, i regularly donate to this charity, so i think i will give there credit card a miss and find a better one to apply for.
