ok so I have just bought a new pc since old one "apparantley" just stopped working prior to xmas, it was over 3 years old so decided just to buy new rather than look at getting fixed.
I took out old hard drive with the intention of buying a caddy so I could retireve music pics etc if it was not the hard drive that had failed.
Today however "someone "has decided to tell me that it was a virus that crashed the computer. Would i dare plug this hard drive into my new computer or would that be a silly thing to try!?!

As long as you have an antivirus program on the new pc you can plug the hard drive into one of the usb's and virus check it. You would have to get a USB to eide connector though, unless the hard drive is sata, in which case you need either a sata lead (if you have a sata) external port on your new computer or a USB to sata lead.0

the drive is sata and someone suggested i would need to but a caddy to put the drive inside and then that would connect to the pc via usb, would that be right??
at the moment on the new pc i have avg free and windows firewall.
So when i plug the hard drive into the new pc nothing can get from it to the pc automatically is that correct?? would it show up like when i plug in a usb stck with pics on for example, and then i would right click and scan?
obviously I am not very techie and am just anxious i will infect new pcNice to save.0 -

Whichever way you decide to connect, seconds after plugging it in, you will get a box offering you different suggestions :
- ignore them all and just click on the red X
- you will get a second box ignore them all and just click on the red X
- GoTo Start Menu / Computer / and right click on the drive you connected and select ' scan with ' AVG or whatever checker you useDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
