Is there any other way I can connect to the university servers?

I think my only option (short of paying for my own internet) is to use my ethernet cable - this isn't always possible:

I have windows 7 on my laptop. In order to connect to the internet at uni, I have to download a piece of software. This piece of software is incompatible with Windows 7. I did not find this out until Thursday. I downloaded and installed it on Tuesday and was left with a laptop that would not allow me to do anything apart from go into safe mode.

After taking some advice from a friend of mine and someone who specialises in computer repairs, I uninstalled said software and restored my laptop back to Tuesday morning and it worked. I did go back to the people who supplied my laptop; but it took me phoning them twice and emailing them numerous times to get a response from them. What I was meant to receive from them on Thursday, I finally received yesterday. (I know it was only a few days; but I am a computing student and can't use the uni library computers)

So, what are my options for connecting to the university internet?

^Do you mean access their servers remotely from home or access the Internet at University whilst actually at the University.

If the latter, then you will need the available DNS and Proxy settings...would they provide you with this (for a wired connection I mean; wireless access would require even more information such as the security Wep key etc).

It would be whilst at the university. The DNS and proxy settings are what messed up my laptop.

    How so;)

^More likely this killed your laptop, as you readily stated ;)
