No Claims Discount
Hi Guys! Hope someone can explain me what and how NCD works. I bought my first car about 3 years ago 06/08/03. 2 months later it was vandalised by some teenagers and need to change the bonnet as it was badly damaged. I claimed it with my insurance which I paid the excess for £ 350 as new bonnet was quoted for £500. But since then I didn't had any claim. My question is what is my NCD will it be 2 or 3 years? Confused please be gentle.
Cheers

You lost the no claims discount for your first year of insurance, as you claimed.
You will have had 2 subsequent claim-free years on 06/08/06 and therefore you'll qualify for 2 years of NCD.0 -
Thanks Mark. That was what confuses me because I thought when I bought my car 3 years ago I started from 0 NCD although made a claimed after 2 months it would still consider 3 years this year but I've got your point now.0

As it has been said at every insurer that I have worked for during initial training... it is a no claims discount not a no blame discountAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Just over 4 years ago I had a crash and lost my NCD. As my insurance would then have become prohibitvely expensive, I did the one thing no good money-saver should do: bought a new car as it had free insurance. I explained to the dealer about my accident and that I no had zero NCD.
Since then, I have been gifted added years NCD, so that my renweal has just come up saying I have 9 years, rather than 4 years, NCD.
If I change my insurer, can I carry across these gifted years, or is my true NCD only 4 years?0 -
If your renewal states that it is "9" years (remembering that most insurers only count up to 5 years anyway) then most insurers will probably honour it. If it mentions anything about "gifting" or "accelerator" other insurers will possibly not honour it and they have found an effective way of tying you into themAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
