i wasnt in contract he never renewed after the first year
You had a periodic tenancy. Assuming you payed rent monthly, you should have given a months notice ending on a rent payment day. Did you?
Write back to them asking for an explanation of the supposed damage. Ask for photographic evidence & copies of receipts for repairs or replaced goods. Ask for a copy of your signed inventory to compare the condition when you moved in with the condition when you moved out.demanding £555 to b paid within 28 days due to damage at the property
I would have thought not, but perhaps. If they wrote to you previously, perhaps at the wrong address (did you tell them your new address? May have taken them a year to find you) and you did not reply, they may eventually have paid out the deposit.does this mean the council have paid out with out contacting me first ? ,
I don't fully understand the relationship with the council. If this was a private rental ("a house owned by my ex partners friend "), then your debt, if any, is to the landlord.0 -
IF it was a local authority bond then they will most likely have paid out and are now claiming the funds back from o/p. Write to them asking the questions in the thread above but also explain why you fled as you did and give them the police reference numbers so that they can checkout the circumstances.
You may find that they will then either accept an offer to repay that you can afford OR drop their claim all together.
can you prove the state of the proeprty when you left? Witnesses or photosin case they are needed.0 -

As well as doing as previous posts, contact her, and get her to confirm the condition when she checked it over.0
