I cant recommend a hotel but I went in december and there wasnt a lot going on in some of the areas. Have a look at silema, they had lots of shops, bars, restaurants etc so plenty to occupy you. We stayed in St Pauls Bay which was very quiet

Use the bus system. Very easy to use and cheap too. Goes to most if not all of the major spots you want to visit.
  • ebay is ace for that.

I have family in Malta and have been a number of times. We always stay in Bugibba. We stayed in Bugibba Holiday Complex once which was cheap but the shower fell off the wall onto me! They did change the room immediately and the food and pool area were great.
The best hotel I have stayed in is the San Antonio Mercure Hotel - it is a bit more expensive but we had a hot tub on our balcony! Food was gorgeous and two pool areas and night time entertainment too.

Places to visit, definitely the Mediterraneo water park. You get a dolphin show, sea lion show and a parrott show at regular intervals throughout the day. You can swim with the dolphins there too (about £50 if my memory serves me) The bus from Bugibba will drop you off and pick you up right outside.

Another good place to go is Popeye Village - it's where the original Popeye movie was filmed and there is a theme park. Once again you can get the bus there easily.

For the beach I would say Meleiha Bay is the best. Beautiful white sands and clear water as most of the other beaches in Malta are rocky. About 30 mins from Bugibba by bus. There is also a nice cafe right on the beach which is part of the Meleiha bay hotel - good food and reasonably priced.

Hope you have a nice holiday x

From what i've heard - and having never been to Malta - About 5 years ago it was a great destination. Now it is full of African immigrants and poverty that have apparently ruined it.

Not my words or thoughts, just what i have read/heard.

It is known as the Malta Immigration Crisis.

  • HI there
Malta is a lovely place-definitely no worse that some parts of Spain! We go twice a yr and love it!Yes it is a bit rough around the edges, but thats what we love about the place. Not too over the top.
Weather in April will not be too hot, and no mozzies so thats a bonus!
Have you tried looking at a private apartment/villa, theres quite a few, ownersdirect, holidayrentals and holidaylettings, not sure of whole web address.
Thats what we do as we like some privacy, but depends if you want a pool or not?
Try the buses which are really good value, or hire a car, a great way to get around, but I would also reccommend the water park/marine park, we went last April and it was really quiet, but still warm enough to swim etc.
Make sure you also go on a cruise around Valletta, amazing, Captain Morgan does them. Also the market on sunday nr the bus station.
Also take a trip to Gozo and The Blue Lagoon........... I could go on.
Other malta websites are YourMalta, Maltabargains, VisitMalta.

    Good luck with it!;)

I've visited Malta in april and the weather was mostly good. We had a couple of days of cold-ish weather, but it was sunny for the rest of our stay.

The places I like best are: st pauls, valleta - and sliema is great for shopping. There is a lovely beach in melliah, but I'm not keen on the surrounding area and melliah village is too boring!

Have a look at the sunseeker apts in buggiba. They are really nice and make a great base for exploring the whole Island.

I can't recommend the hotel I stayed in some years ago in melliah village though. Nasty place with pokey rooms! Just avoid melliah village:D

  • Personally I would steer clear of Bugibba, Qawra and St Paul's Bay if you don't like things too touristy although I would imagine it could be cheaper there. I would suggest St Julians/Sliema, Mellieha is a pretty spot but like someone else said there isn't much there. Buses are good and from Sliema you can also get a ferry every half hour that takes you across to Valletta which is a nice way to get there - a bit less cramped than the buses can be. April should be nice, warm but not toooooo hot. Don't know what your price range is but we have stayed at Le Meridien which certainly is nice but not exactly cheap and the Preluna, which isn't as nice but is cheaper and the food there was lovely, we had Xmas lunch there this year yum yum. St Julians was a good base for restaurants, Sliema less so but nearer to good shopping and the ferry to Valletta - although the bus service is excellent also. If you intend to hire a car choose a hotel with a garage/parking as on road parking is a nightmare.

ETA - forgot to say my son really liked the Armoury in Valletta
