Can anyone recommend an island and/or hotel for a honeymoon in the Cape Verde islands? We're not beach people so would like sights to see for some of the holiday! Hotel should be close(ish) to facilities but quiet and romantic(ish) would be fab!
It'sa toss up between Cape Verde & Madeira at the mo!

Hi, we went to the island of Sal in Cape Verde, there were not really any sights to see, the island tour was half a day, with stops. I cannot comment on the other islands but it is possible to do trips to other islands from Sal, not cheap though as I remember.0

Congratulations on getting married!
For a Honeymoon, I would highly recommend Madeira. If you are after a good hotel, there are many hotels in Funchal which are amazing. If you want any hotel suggestions, let me know which kind of rating you are looking for and I will be more than happy to give you some suggestions.Happy0 -
I would not recommend Cape Verde for what you intend doing. Once you have had a half hour wander round the 'town' then that is pretty much it. Facilities wise there ain't much either.
So basically you can relax on the beach and that is pretty much it. There are a couple of restaurants in town along with the hotel facilites but no decent quality up market places.
That is based on going to Sal which is the main tourist destination, the other islands are totally different but i dont think there are any direct flights from the UK to the other islands. You could either fly to Sal and then fly on the inter island planes but they are not reliable and often get cancelled.
I'd say your safer going elsewhere.0 -
Hi thanks all - you've confirmd what I was starting to think!
I think Maderia is it (though might look at Corsica too). Rocking69 - I've made a list of the hotels I like the sound/location/reviews of and they are;
Hotel Albergaria Dias
Quinta da Penha de Franca
& Quinta Jardins Do Lago
Will go for a room upgrade where available too I think.

Mercury Direct offer quite a range of hotels in Madeira. I'm not up to speed with prices for Madeira but certainly their prices for Sri Lanka appear very competitive.
Madeira looks wonderfully romantic for a honeymoon! Somewhere else you may like to consider as I have seen people rave about it is the Amalfi coast of Italy.0 -
Thanks Incapuppy - we got engaged in Sorrento last summer so have seen Amalfi - but that would have been my first choice otherwise!
We were hoping for 3 weeks around Australia but I never dreamt I'd be out of work for so long so can't afford that0 -
Hiya,
Out of the hotels you have mentioned, I would suggest Quinta Jardins Do Lago.
Also have a look at The Cliff Bay.
Both above hotels will offer you wine, fruit and flowers in the room on arrival and a complimentary candlelit dinner for two with a bottle of wine as its your honeymoon.
For something more modern, have a look at the Pestana Grand Ocean Resort. This hotel has an infinity pool and great facilities but is further from the centre of Funchal.
The Quinta Penha de Franca is also a good option and should work out more or less around the same price as the Pestana Grand Ocean Resort but it depends if you prefer something more authentic or modern, closer or further from the resort.
Room upgrades should be available at most of the above hotels.
Just remember that as its your honeymoon, some hotels will give you a complimentary upgrade subject to availability on arrival.
Let me know if you need any more advice on anything.Happy0 -
Thomson also fly to Boa Vista in Cape Verde, I have not been so cannot advise.

Here is one site with info.
Have you considered some of the better hotels in Turkey, plenty of sights there, and if you could spend some time in Cappadocia you may enjoy that.

Boa vista has even less to offer than Sal as it's only been used as a tourist destination for a couple of years.0
