Just when I thought I had got my head around Intel Chips and the confusing model numbers they bring out i3's, 5's and 7's.
Is the i3 the new celercon?

Celeron will stay as Celeron
i3 is the replacement for the Pentium dual-core
i5 is the replacement for the Core2Duo
i7 is the replacement for the Core2quad
I think, anyway. I'm probably wrongSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
Pentium dual core still exists as e5xxx and e6xxx cpu's, 45nm, good value cpu's.
There are still celeron cpu -e3xxx, 45nm good value cpu's.
How about this - the e3300 celeron features on the chart for high end processors here -http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html
I got an e3200 and o/clocked to 3.9ghz.0 -

Yep, you are.
Core i5 is available in bothe 2 and 4 core versions. Core i7 have 4 cores but the extreme versions have 4 or 6.
The whole Core iX are basically replacements for the Core 2 range but I don't think you can really map them out as like for like replacements.
I believe Core i9 is in the offing as well. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Cheers guys - Thought I read somewhere that the celeron was going to be called something else and now the name change of the chips I thought this was the start.0

From a pricing point of view, at the moment you could consider Core i3 to be about equal to the mainstream Core 2 Duo's (E7XXX series) with the Core i5's maybe sitting with the higher end Core 2 Duo's and some Quads (E8XXX and Q8XXX).
To add to this there is also the dual core Pentium G6950 which sits below the Core i3 models. Like them, and the dual core i5's it's based on the "Clarkdale" but has less cache and no hyperthreading. I personally would think this range will probably expand and take the place of the Pentium Dual Cores. There is no Celeron equivalent in the new range yet.0 -
i3 replace Core2Duo,Celeron and most of the 775 socket
i5 replace,Core2Duo and some Core2quad with HT
i7 7/8 series replace topend Core2quad
i7 9 series is top end bread and not replace any thingthere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0
