painted lining paper

How easy is it to remove painted lining paper?

We are talking about wallpapering my DS`s when we move this year but i am worried he will pick or tear it (his 2 and has previous lol!).
My mum said to buy lining paper and paint it, BUT my dad says this will be a !!!!!! to get off when the times comes to redecorate.

Is this the case?
If not hard to remove - how can i get a nice effect by just using lining paper on the walls?! good wall prep/good lining paper?

What sort of walls have you got? If they are painted over plaster then just paint on top of it.

The real problem with removing wall paper with paint on it is the layers of paint on the paper and the type of paint used.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

I can vouch or that !! Recently moved to a house with 30 year old + lining paper and wall paper on every wall and ceiling. The steamer normally does an excellent job of getting this of with minimal difficulty, however lining paper on one bedroom ceiling had so many layers of paint that the steamer wouldn't cut through it and it took me 11 hours to remove this from a 12' square ceiling.

For longevity for a Children's room I'd go painted plaster every time.

Well if it is anything like what we had here when we moved in it had to be wallpapered.
Once we stripped the walls it was too uneven and damaged to just paint over. Prepping the wall failed to improve it for just painting too.

Think i will have to wait and see what the walls are like.

    Thankyou all x

Sometimes you need to bite the bullet and pay to have the walls reskimmed once the wallpaper is removed. All walls need reskimming eventually and its false economy to keep using lining paper.

We have lining papered our bedroom and living room and will shortly do my 4 yr old sons room. So long as you double paste it (paste, leave and then paste again - thanks to my grandad who was a decorator RIP!) and then make sure you butt pieces together but not overlap and make sure you have rolled over all joins, I can;t see that you could pick the paper from the way that we have done it. Buy the most expensive lining paper - not the cheap one as it covers better. If there are any areas that look like they are not stuck, before drying make sure that you get them stuck down.
