Rip off NPower!!!

Options
Does anybody else disagree with NPower's seasonally adjusted charging? Basically the 4572 kWH are not spread evenly over the year so we are all charged more for using gas in the winter months.

On our final bill with them we have used 141 cubic metres in 50 days, which is probably a slightly less than average amount. For this we have been charged £113, with 85% of the units being charged at the PRIMARY RATE of 7.4p/kWH.

This is ridiculous, as our gas usage is fairly low we're always going to be charged for the bulk of our units at the primary rate over the winter, but also in the summer when we use even less! In effect, NPower is actually SUBSIDISING people to use MORE gas!!! Surely this can't be right in today's world of climate change and green ethics?

We have switched back to Ebico who charge a flat rate of 3.5p per kWH (who we were with at our old address), and for the same amount of cubic metres we would have been charged just £56, over 50% cheaper!!

We pay by cash quarterly so we're able to monitor our usage and pay as it occurs, but this is worrying for the millions of customers of who pay Direct Debit, which is masking NPower's devious charging strategy.

I have phoned NPower and complained about this to them, and also to the energy regulator and both are not interested. But in a world where we're all trying to reduce energy usage, it seems unfair that people who are conscious about using more are being charged more per kWH for it!! I might as well have had the heating on for 12+ hours a day and paid proportionally less!!

Ebico's flat rate charging policy is the future and I strongly urge people to consider them. In our old property our average quarterly gas bill with them was £50 as we used what we NEEDED and nothing else.

Happy to hear everyone's thoughts! Thanks for reading, Ryan...

Nope, it's not a rip off. Why should you not pay your fair share?

And if your usage is as low as you claim then non-seasonally weighted tariffs would be just as bad for you.

I trust you have put your money where your mouth is and take your electricity from Ebico, too.

I'm paying just as much of a fair share as anyone else, but paying proportionally more than others for being energy efficient. I could happily have the heating on for an extra 2 hours a day with every extra unit costing marginally less, but if I don't need to then why should I? A kWH is a kWH and should cost the same no matter what time of the year you use it.

An iota of evidence or do you just enjoy unsubstantiated ranting?
