currys

i have a casio camera which i bought from currys along with the whatever happens insurence. my problem is that the lens is faulty and when i took i contacted currys they said it was an instant replacement. so i took it in and they said that i can swap it for another of the same price. but i originally had another casio which cost £200 and which i broke. they said they could only swap it for same specs which was 10mp but £50 cheaper so i did that and now this one is broke they are saying i can only swap it for something the same price. the only other casios in store are 9 and 12 mp but cost £200 and if i want them i have to pay the extra. what is the correct procedure with instant replacement as i seem to be losing out here. personally i would prefer they just fixed it as its also covered in the warrenty still but casio has said that they wont fix it as its broke?

I don't have a copy of the T&Cs with me, but the procedure is as follows:
    1) Swap for same item
    2) If same item is not available, credit towards a new item.

It is open to interpretation, for example, some stores would stick to it rigidly, whereas others (mine included) would be a bit more flexible. Ideally, it's good sense to swap for the same spec - if you don't mind another brand, then store may be willing to be a bit more flexible.

Though one thing does stand out to me. You paid £200 for the inital camera, and the second one at £150...did they refund the £50 to you? If so, use that towards the new one. If not, they either over-rode the price of the new one to £200 (in which case you'd have £200 on the replacement), or someone's had that £50 :D

Finally, I'm sure instant replacement was on £150 and under items. Something don't sound right at that store - how much did you pay for the instant replacement?

your right about the original camera as when i first brought it it was £200 but after a couple of years the price went down to less than £150 but i was offered only a swap on specs so i was given a cheaper camera same specs this time the closest camera to mine is a 9 or 12 mp at £200 so i have to pay the rest to get one of them when i said to the guy that i had instant rplacement on specs last time he just said he dont know what happened but i can only have what my camera is worth.

Take a look at your receipt for the first swap - if the first one was bought at £200, and swapped for one at £150, there's £50 somewhere - and I know the system, it doesn't just vanish. What have they put through on it?

If the same spec camera is cheaper, the store should override the price to the original; although some will give you the refund.

Finally, can you also (if you can remember) tell me how much you paid for the instant replacement?

my original camera was brought on 22 march 2007 casio z1050 £199.89 i then was paying £1.99 a month for cover plan but i had problems with currys when they didnt take the money out direct debit so on the 24 jan 2009 i paid £16.99 for 3 years insurence.
on 19 may 2009 i took my casio back to currys as the battery compartment broke and was told that it was an instant replacement so they swapped it for same specs to a casio z200 £149.97 i also paid £31.99 for coverplan for 3 years.
there was a nicer casio i wanted then priced at £170 but was told i had to pay the differnce as the specs was different.

problem sorted i went back into currys and they offered me same spec on another camera but as i wanted a casio they only had the 9mp and 12 mp available they gave me vouchers for my camera and the rest of the insurence so i only paid £20 to get the £200 casio
