help with finding a new gas and electricity supplier

Options
Hey guys, hope someone can help, We rent a house in Hazel grove stockport and are currently with spark energy and after a previous post on here were advised to change supplier ASAP. I have just checked our meter readings, since we moved in (66 days ago) we have used 56.95 for gas and 394 for electric. Now i have divided these by 66 and multiplied by 365 to work out our usage per year ( I know this wont be totally accurate) but when i put these details into the british gas website it said our total bill would be £282 per year?? surely this isnt right and I have done something wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

As you appreciate, it won't be entirely accurate since you've probably used more over the winter period than you will in the summer.

The other mistake you appear to have made is with the gas reading. Unlike the electricity, the gas meter does not measure in kWh but in cubic metres (or 100s of cubic feet)

If it's a metric meter, multiply the usage by 11 and if it's an imperial, multiply by 33 instead - those values will be nearer the mark for gas in kWh.

  • thanks I just been browsing the net and realised that I need to convert it to KWH how can i find out if it is metric or imperial?

    thanks
  • ahh its ok i have found out its an imperial meter so will need to times 314 by 33 to give me 10393kwh of gas which makes more sense. thanks for your help. am i right in thinking my overall yearly usage will be a bit less because the last 66 days have been winter and will have used more gas for heating

  • LOL thats the site i went on :) thanks for the help will go see what ii can save now :)
  • Just wanted to add to the post you saw which said avoid Spark. I've put it in another couple of threads, but reckon you need to be very wary with them.

My experience was that they overcharged, and then took 12 months to repay. Look in the forums here and on MoneySupermarket (go Utilities, Products & Suppliers, Supplier Reviews) and you'll see that seems to be a pattern. What really worried me was that they repeatedly told me "We only have a set amount for repayments per day. We'll repay you in approx 4 weeks." That was 7 months after I stopped being supplied by them. They didn't pay. Ring again, they say the same - only by now it's 4 weeks later. That happened 3 times. It rather looks like they have cashflow problems...
