thanks for the replies have just been in contact with the travel coordinator at work and she is going to sort out the details i need to get a bike on the scheme. Its a nice easy ride to work for me on main roads so was looking to get a road bike, I have a mountain bike already (for when i go camping) but its not really suitable for cycling to work each day. Can anyone recommend a good bike for this for around 500 quid.

    thanks
if you can go in on a day in the week, when they are not busy, then i have always found the staff at http://www.evanscycles.com/ to be knowlegable and not pushy sale types dont bother going if they are packed unless you just want to loo kat there bikes as it can take ages to speak to someone. As i dont know much about different bikes it was nice to have a sales persons in there who wasnt to technical about the bike that i wanted to buy
They also have some really good sales on where you can buy last years bike model with around 200pounds off

i have bought 3 bikes from the bristol branch in the past 2 years with no probs - i have a specialised globe which is a hybrid bike which is good for what i want it for which is mainly just messing around when the wether is nice

But my son who is 15 has a Specialized Langster 2010 Road Bike which he likes cos its incredibly light he pick it up with just 2 fingers :D though why he wants to do that i dont know - he mainly uses it for riding to school and back each day AN

One thing i will say though is get it insured as soon as you get it and get a really really good lock/padlock or both if you can that is accepted by the insurance company on it - Get the best lock that you can afford to my son has his old bike nicked from the school bike shed 18 months ago it was a specialised hardrock sport mountain bike and he had an expensive bike and a !!!! lock on it
take a few photos of it as well for the insurance and register it on http://www.immobilise.com/ just in case its gets knicked and turns up later on my son couldnt even remember what bloody colour his bike was when it got knicked :D
