The Angel at Chippenham any good? As its owned by Best Western, price is likely to be good.
:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:

I had my reception at The Rectory in Crudwell
    http://therectoryhotel.com/
You can get exclusive use which includes 11 bedrooms which you could then recoup some of the costs on (prices were up to £145 per room this time last year).
They were very flexible on food so it's up to you what to choose. We had a sit down meal with suop and gorgeous pies and then cupcakes which my sister in law made for desert. We had a 3 tier wedding cake and a cheese wedding cake which were served with home made breads and chutneys in the evening.
I hired a marquee, which was nice for the photos but the amount of use it got for dancing meant it was a bit of a waste of money.
The venue does not have one big room but a morning room, bar, dining room and conservatory. You can use an iPod for music which plays in the dining room and bar.
The grounds are beautiful (with a church next door if you want it in the pictures) and there is a pub called the potting shed right across the road!
What I really liked was the relaxed atmosphere of the place. The decor was also quite quirky which meant that we didn't spend much 'dressing' the rooms - a few flowers (they will have their arrangements match your colour scheme if you ask) and I used fairly lights and coloured lights in paper bags in the conservatory.
I think the road from the M4 is ? the A429 but it's an easy place to find if you're travelling from Bristol. There are also other hotels, B&Bs and self catering accommodation in close proximity
    The only negatives...
Crudwell isn't the nicest name, but the vilage is lovely!
You can't have fireworks, but can have Thai Lanterns - which we forgot to set off!
You need to apply for a license of some sort for music (which the venue left it quite late to tell us).
We had a falconry display in the rear garden which was possibly the highlight as it entertained everyone. I know that some people don't like birds but as we used the rear lawn, anyone who didn't like them could be kept safely away whilst still enjoying the venue and (some of) the grounds. Plenty of room for bouncy castles and the like if you wanted them.
    Good luck on your search.

    Hi there,
We are getting married next month at Cleeve House, Seend, just outside Devizes / Melksham.
It is a pretty manor house with three reception rooms including a Great Hall. There are also eight bedrooms. Exclusive use is £1500 (or was when we booked last year) and you can bring in your own caterers, wine, entertainment - it is very flexible. We have found the staff at Cleeve House very friendly and helpful. They also have pretty gardens and woodlands for taking photos.
I believe they have a wedding fair in March, I think it is sunday 21st. You can check their website at https://www.cleeve-house.com

I hope you find somewhere you like!
  • Hi guys I am a newbie here, got engaged in Dec and we're looking at next September. Have just seen your post. The Grange (it's a Ramada Jarvis hotel) at Winterbourne are doing 1, 2 and 3 grand wedding packages which vary on what you'd like. We have been for a little look see and they are v friendly and seem to be able to cater to your needs. May be worth checking out. I think that's what we're doing, very cheap for what we're getting :)

    Hope this helps!

Cameley Lodge at Temple Cloud near Bristol/Bath is beautiful and popular for weddings, also the Avon Gorge Hotel is very nice and also caters very well for weddings, it's virtually next to the Suspension Bridge in Bristol. Good luck for the big day and have a fabulous time whereever you choose.
  • I dont know if all of them do them - have you thought about using one of the Universitys? Bristol University is beautifull, Bath Spa Newton Park campus is a beautifull house and estate - not sure if their your kind of thing but price wise I can imagine their good, plus most will have catering facillities and parking.

Alyssa C - We went to see the Grange, and unfortunately the offers aren't available for us - they have a minimum spend of £5,500 so that unfortunately goes over our budget!

We are looking into the Angel at Chippenham at the moment among others, the prices seem quite good from what I can see.
  • did you get my pm :)
    Married on 5th March 2010
still lurking on the wedding board tho :rotfl:
  • Oh, thats a shame, are you marrying on a Sat? Might be why (I have no idea of course). Other than that, I have no idea in the local area for your budget :( Good luck and let us know what you decide
