Accident - own fault - injury sustained - advice needed
Options
I recently had an accident, drove into the back of somebody who randomnly stopped in the middle of the road to let a pedestrian cross. I have injured myself. I have fully comprehensive insurance but when I spoke to them to tell them I'd been injured they basically said 'tough' beacuse it was my fault I wouldn't be able to claim. I thought that by having fully comp insurance that it would be ok. What would have happened if I'd had a passenger in the car and they'd been injured? Can they do this?
Any advice gratefully received, thanks.

Of course they can do this. You can't sue yourself for damages.
Any passenger would have claimed against you and it been settled by the insurers.0 -
Car insurance is for liability to third parties (of any nature) and damage/theft to your own vehicle, it does not cover injury to yourself. Whilst it would theoretically be possible to include injury to the driver in a policy, as far as I know, no-one offers this sort of insurance.
I guess it's because it would be open to abuse by drivers, as injury claims can be very expensive indeed, but a vehicle damage claim is limited to the value of the car.0 -

If you could claim on your car insurance for injuring yourself, can you imagine how many people would be doing it??!!0

Most Comprehensive Policies include Personal Accident Cover for the Policyholder and often the partner in the insured car (Sometimes in any car eg if you were a passenger in someone else's car). However this is almost always limited to Accidental Death, Loss of a Limb and / or loss of one or both eyes. It sometimes include permanent total disability.
The typical amount of cover for this is between £5000 and £10000.
I doubt this is any good for the OP but it is worth pointing out for the benefit of any other MSE users on the off chance they should be unfortunate enough to use it0 -
You said the driver infront randomly stopped to let someone cross... but if you hadnt been tailgaiting him you would have had plenty of time to stop.0

It doesn't help Helly, but if it makes one person stop and think in a constructive sort of way, then it could avoid future death or injury.
I agree there is no point beating someone up when they accept they were wrong.0 -
The only way Nelly would be able to claim is if they had their own standalone Personal Accident policy. The man without a signature.0
