Help - Time allowed to search for a job / attend interviews

Hi - My friend has been told she is likely to be given her notice at the end of March due to the loss of a contract.
Can anyone advise how much time is allowed once her redundancy notice has been issued to search for alternative employment/ attend interviews.

IIRC the term is "reasonable time off". So taking every day off would be unreasonable. And allowing only one hour off a week would probably be "unreasonable".Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

I don't recall ever seeing a definition of what is reasonable I'm afraid, its a bit like how long is a peice of string when it comes to 'reasonable' and the law. I think reasonable could be different for lots of people. I suggest your friend asks her employer what they believe is reasonable and how they go about arranging the time off. (I know some employers who ask for proof of the interview!! :-() That way she'll know where she stands, if she thinks its not enough she could negotiate as other poster suggests, especially if she isn't busy - because of the end of the contract.
Time off for interviews only kicks in once redundancy has been confirmed, so once your friend starts working notice. Also it has to be redundancy, not just end of a fixed term contract. I'd like to think most employers would be extremely reasonable and not prevent anybody from finding a new job, but unfortunately this is not always the case.0
