I really need some advice. I own a flat in a house with 3 other flats. Aproximatley 1 year ago all the owners of the flats including myself started the ball rolling with buying the freehold. We were advised it would be around £4000 plus aprox £1000 costs between the 4 flats. The lowest price the solicitor has been able to negotiate is £9000 plus his costs and we also have to pay the leasers costs of £700 plus £1200!!( the initial survey)
We have the option of going to a tribuneral to try and get it cheaper and query the cost of the £1200 survey but our solicitor is advising against this as there will be tribuneral costs and his costs. and we may not get it for cheaper than that?
Does anyone know if the £9000 ( £2250 per flat) is too much? any advice would be appreciated.Anyone any experience in taking it to a tribuneral? I own a 1 bed flat in brighton. Thankyou!

It sounds pretty reasonable to me. In a way you're in a fortunate position as the cost of the freehold is split between 4 of you so keeps the cost lower. The intial figure of £4000 was rather optimistically hopeful I fear.

You'll reap the benefit when you come to sell as the length of the lease is never going to be much of an issue as it is with standard leaseholds.
I'd say listen to your solicitor as you pay for his advice & he is trying to save you money obviously, rather than spin you a hopeful tale to earn more money out of you.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

Are you sure the £4,000 was not per flat? That sounds much more likely.0
