Car insurance help

Hi

I was recently left a car ina will which i need to move to my house which is about 100miles from its presentlocation.

Ive sorted tax as it was (Sorn) however i need to get it covered by inurance, I only need it for about 5 days of cover just to move it and get it off the road. I rang my current insurance provider and they told me that i would have to have it added as a second car and would cost me around £88 for 10 days cover! which seems ludicrous!

Is there any other way to cover this car for a few days insurance without adding it to my current policy for big money?

Thanks in advance

Hi, get a quote off someone like tempcover.com, what intrigues me is how you got car tax without getting insurance first.

I dont have tax, but as im driving it to the MOT centre i can drive it without tax.

    its just my bad wording!

Tried Tempcover and they were as expensive as insurance provider! guess theres not much else to be done!

But your post stated that it was to move your car from its present location to your house and its over 100 miles. It would be a big risk to do this even if you had prebooked an MOT somewhere near your home. All it would need would be for you to pass near 1 police traffic car, it would flag up no insurance and you would have to try and talk your way out of it. The situation where you take it to a prebooked MOT relates from your house to a local garage.

Now which part of which act relates to a _local_ garage. Now looking at the 1994 Vehicle and Excise act
22 (1) A vehicle is an exempt vehicle when it is being used solely for the purpose of—
    (a) submitting it (by previous arrangement for a specified time on a specified date) for a compulsory test, or
    (b) bringing it away from a compulsory test.
    (2) A vehicle is an exempt vehicle when it is being used by an authorised person in the course of a compulsory test solely for the purpose of—
    (a) taking it to, or bringing it away from, a place where a part of the test is to be, or has been, carried out, or
    (b) carrying out a part of the test.
    (3) Where the relevant certificate is refused on a compulsory test of a vehicle the vehicle is an exempt vehicle when it is being used solely for the purpose of—
    (a) delivering it (by previous arrangement for a specified time on a specified date) at a place where relevant work is to be done on it, or
    (b) bringing it away from a place where relevant work has been done on it.

This does not reference location. I also stumbled across this rather interesting post concerning stopping en route.

Can't find the exemption for an MOT certificate though....

Point taken, I should have made it clear that I was not talking from a legal view point but rather from the point of view of the police if they were stopped on a 100 mile journey. Look at it from the police side , it would look rather dodgy and the journeywould need to be timed to terminate at the MOT centre during opening hours.
