Hi guys! sHa_wave5.gif
I hope all is well with everyone?
Forgive me and my smileys for straying into techie HQ territory folks, but I'm really in need of some 'tech-spertise' from you kind souls.

The Tiffster needs to buy a laptop very quickly. I have trawled the net so thoroughly myself that I can't see the wood for the trees anymore. I don't know my rams from my goats (ghz) now! sFun_duck.gif
I know there'll be a range of opinions on what would be best so I'll list what I need. Please remember that I can't even wire a plug when you write your replies.wink.gif

I need a laptop that will be able to do most, if not more, of what my desktop, (OS Vista Basic), can do.

- I'd like Windows as the OS.
- I don't know whether to have Vista Home Premium or to go for Windows 7 Home Premium. How much difference is there between the two?
- 2GB+ RAM, if not 3 or 4
- Intel or not?
- integrated webcam
- something that is Tiff-proof that I can just plug in and connect wirelessly
- Windows Media Player is enough for my music needs but I have a vast amount of photos that I want to be able to edit, etc.
- Also have lots of docs to store but I don't really play many games.
- TV out or VGA?
- something that will alllow me to copy and create CDs and DVDs - multimedia and multi-region? - to play any of the copies I get of my DS's performances
- multi-tasking various things at same time
- around 15 inch screen
- modem and other important bits included
- good battery life - about 3 hours?
- warranty
- quick delivery as I have no transport
- anything else you can think of!

I'm not adverse to refurbished laptops but I need a really decent one from a reputable source as I can only buy this once. When I found myself browsing on the pcworld site, I knew I had to seek expert help!speechless-smiley-040.gif

And the grand total of my budget needs to be as close to £300 as possible. Stop laughing!biggrin.gif Yes I know I might as well be providing you with loaves and fishes ready for your miracle replies, but I'm in a tight £ situation. I'm not getting ideas above my station peeps as I have a fairly good reason for needing a laptop urgently. I need one to virtually replace my desktop pc because I need a laptp that can be in whatever room or bed that I'm in, due to health problems.

I've seen a couple of links that seemed interesting but I'd deeply appreciate your opinions on them.

This one doesn't say which version of Windows 7 is loaded and I don't even know what a DDR2 RAM is.

Thank you for reading this guys - here's a tech pic for you all...

[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

I would avoid Tosh - had hard disk trouble and had to be replaced. Same for a mate who has a tosh (he got a new laptop recently and its a Dell which is my recommendation).

Cant suggest exact one model but there are plenty on offer on dell site.

    1. Poor processor performance , you need to be looking at least the newer dual core Celeron T3000 or T3100

    2. It's got Vista over Win 7. Win 7 is much better and the processor is quite a old Dual core.

    Have a look at these.

right both those computers are overpriced for what they are imho.
also i would avoid toshiba i have heard quite a few things bad about them if you thru posts on mse you will see harddrive issues also one chap had powersocket coming free from the motherboard.
also the chips on those boards are quite old newest being Launch DateQ4'08 and that being 2.16ghz dual core

have you considered dell outlet at all? i have had a about three diff lappys from them last few months one for me , wife and father in law asked me to get him one pick our 2 up about £300 delivered and his one was about £320.
nice to see what you do want right my advice windows7 it is what vista should have been and is not a resource hog like vista is.
    dell outlet link

just remember to look thru the stockroom but make sure you untick scratch & dent then filter results also will have add £21.54 delivery on top of your system price.
you will have to go thru all the stockroom pages as they are not setup in price order but other than that is good place to look!
ram minimum of 2gb obviously the more the better once you hit 4gb you will need the 64bit version of windows to get use out of it all.
graphics in your case i go with onboard graphics as to get the tv out you will need a seperate graphics card and this would push price up and as you don't play games would be a waste where more money effectively spends on the rest if you see what i'm saying.
battery wise when checking the systems look for 6 cell battery this will give you about 3hrs as alot of dell systems people just go for the standard which will not give you what you want this is most important!
doing cd/dvd burning just requires that, plenty of free software out there that covers all of that so not a real worry.

right i would suggest clicking on some in the stockroom you like the look of copy and paste specs here and i'll help you if you want.

If you want to check out a proccessor spec i would suggest checking http://ark.intel.com/ lists it specs
