my optician sometimes travels to india to visit people with eye problems over there, and he has a box in his opticians for people to donate glasses, i dont think he takes them himself though prob a well known charity he hands them to

My wife has just got new pair of glasses. It seems a shame to throw the old ones (and a pair of prescription sunglasses) out. Its no good keeping them as a spare set as they are a different prescription.

Anybody know of any charities/ organisations that recycle them as I'm sure somebody in the third world would be grateful for them?

I take mine to Specsavers who are always very grateful and they are sent off to be reused. Other opticians probably do the same.

  • just so you know, a lot of opticians and charity shops also accept old glasses for donation to charities. In the specsavers where I work we send a big box off to VAO every month :)

https://www.wantglasses.co.uk run a service that will send your old glasses to charity for you. I sent a old pair and had a letter back thanking me. They give all the old pairs of glasses to people who cannot afford them in third world countries. :D

I dont know if anyone can help. But I have glasses in good condition, is there anyway to give this to charity? or are there any charities for those who have sight problems who would be in need of glasses?
They are just sitting at home & would prefer them to go to those in need.

    Thanks!! :o
