I have an LDV van which I only use occassionally. Due to water getting-in to the cab when it rains (which I've now fixed), the cloth roof lining has a spotty mould problem. I took it for an mot and the tester refused to test it until the mould was removed. My question is - what is the best way to do this?

    it must be bad!

if it comes out easily enough i would get it out and pressure wash it if its in a bit of a state, then get it dried out.

failing that some good old fashion hot soapy water?

The MOT tester is right to refuse as some moulds can be very hazardous to human health.

I wonder if something like https://www.heritage-homeandgarden.co.uk/product_info.php?language=en&products_id=2748 would work. Bear in mind these types of products usually contain bleach, so wear old clothes, and you might want to cover the seats and carpet to prevent them getting bleach marks.
  • mold spours (black spot) can be hazardous to health, buy yourself a mouth mask from wilko's and get a steamer on it ( if you have access to one) failing that auto glym interior shampoo will remove mold spot but be prepared to have a dead arm as youll have to scrub hard open all windows as your steaming and or scrubbing and keep children away from the cab too as not to breath in the spores that fly into the air.

I have a steamer, and a large supply of masks. I it is nice tomorrow, then I can get cleaning.

Once you have the stains out, leave the van completely closed with a dehumidifier inside running, particularly if you have used steam.
