Washer Dryer Door Problem...

I've a 15-year old Ariston Margherita AV1048C washer dryer. I've did a washing load earlier on, then forgot about it. When I later went to empty it, the door lock light was still on, and the door won't open.

I tried switching off with the on/off button, turning the programme dial to finish the cycle again, and turning of the power at the wall. The first 2 didn't work. When I tried turning the power off, after about 20 seconds I heard a click, and could open the door. Turning the power back on results in the door being locked again. I've managed to do this again, although it doesn't seem to work every time.

The clothes look clean and there was no sign of any problem such as water still in the drum. Any ideas of an easy fix?

If it's nothing I can fix myself (basic DIYer), I presume at 15 years old I'm best replacing rather than trying to get it fixed?

Tried putting it on a spin cycle? Then it will drain and spin. The machine may just be confused... or possibly knackered but considering you have managed to get the clothes out suggests the lock is not stuck.
