Help!! Bank charges

Hi
I have a Student account with RBS and have done for a few years. I haven't used this account in a year. I got a statement through last week and was told i had £100 worth of charges!! This is the first statement i have had in a year! I have phoned up my local branch and i always get, "We will call you back" but they never do!! I have even gone into a RBS and they said i have to pay the full amount! I only went over £4 in the first place but they have added all of these charges on top!!
There is no way i can afford to pay this, especially in one go so i'm just going to keep getting more and more.
Pls can someone give me some advice?
Thanks in advance

I would have thought that if you have only received one statement in a year and RBS has not notified you of the charges as they have accrued then you might be able to argue that they failed to mitigate your loss by failing to advise you your account had gone into arears and had remained there. That was unreasonable of them in the circumstances.
It might be enough to strip 90% of the charges away.Disclaimer - Info about the law is designed to help users safely cope with their own legal needs.
