halifax taken money from my account in error

Hi,
Im looking for some advice for next steps to take... heres the story..
On the 11th jan Halifax took £230.00 from my Halifax account and was taken 'internally'.
We only realised last week that this money had been taken and since 11th jan have been in my overdraft every day at charge of £1 per day.
So contacted Halifax to report and reclaim this error and money to be put back into my account asap.
Well got told on Friday last week, they would need to look into it and find which department has taken it, then they could return the money.
Well rung Monday spoke with a duty manager and got told it would be lookied into and returned within 48 hours with the charges for taking me into overdraft also.
Well now Friday and nothing been returned!!! Just rung them and got a snotty customer adviser on the phone who said no more notes on system!!
Very annoyed at present, as they taken my money and like someone stealing it! What do i do next, really need my money back asap
- do i report to police??/
-i was planning to write a letter of complaint afterwards but even if i do one now it will take weeks to be processed.
-surely they cannot do this, it is my money and dont owe them anything
What now????
Advice would be good asap thanks in advance

Thats why they are investigating!!
If the error was made by them they will refund the charges anyway.
If you cannot be bothered to write a complaint because it will take weeks I have no sympathy for you.0 -
If it was taken in error, then they will simply remove the transaction from your statement - so any overdraft charges will be recalculated, and you won't owe them anything. Don't worry about the overdraft charges, they will sort all of that out.
Of course they have to investigate before refunding the money - they need to check that it wasn't really you.
Keep pestering them, it might be worth going into a branch tomorrow or Monday, speaking to someone face to face can help to sort these matters out quicker.0 -

In response to this unhelpful statements Lokolo - yes they have been saying they have been 'investigating' since last week - and promised money back already which is over the time limit already given by a duty manager!
Yes the error was by them - so why no refund yet???
I did not say i CANT BE BOTHERED TO MAKE A COMPLAINT i said i would rather do one to make a whole complaint after the fact and it wont solve anything now will it??
AND I DONT EXPECT UR SYMPATHY
any advice from any one been in a similiar position or who is helpful??
at the end of the day they have taken money that is not theirs and failed to remberse it when they said it would already be sorted???0 -
Re the complaint; always make one...and especially when they don't do something they say they're going to!
For example, here we have Halifax taking money "internally" to which you're saying they're not entitled to. If that wasn't reason enough to formally complain then surely the fact that their own deadline for reimbursement has now passed is?
At what point will you consider making a formal complaint (because you've more patience than I have!)?0 -

It might well help to resolve things more quickly.
Although I have never had cause to make a complaint with Halifax, on the several occasions that I have complained to Natwest, it has resolved their errors more quickly than if I did not complain.
If it was me, I would go into a branch tomorrow, and tell them that if they are unable to provide me with a satisfactory explanation by the close of business on Monday, I will be making a complaint.0 -

DOOOO ITTTTTTTTT.
I'm sure they're not just sitting on their a**** but they have to know what went wrong and if something has. If everyone who said 'money has come out of my account when it shouldn't have' and the bank repaid the money there would be a lot of problems. They have to investigate thoroughly. But it's a bit of a pain if they said it would be sorted by now.0 -
This will become an urgent issue for the bank if you make it one. Complain and keep on their case.0
