You need to make sure that you are registered on the Electoral Roll with your council. The fact that you have not been in the country for very long will play a part to the fact that you're getting declined. You have to be very careful in the number of application you do for credit card or catalogue account as too many application within a short period of time will badly damage your credit file. Better wait at least 6 months before any new ones. Do you have a monthly contract for a mobile phone? that would help as the network will report your account to either experian or equifax

Are you a UK resident? are you eligible to vote in the uk? are you on the electoral roll?

If you are not on the electoral roll then you will find it almost impossible to get mainstream credit in the UK.

If you are from the European Union or have visa to stay & work in this country of course you can register on the Electoral roll. You will be allow to vote at local election only. Just go to your council website and should be able to register online or they will send you the papers to fill in and return, once it's done it might take a couple of month for your credit file to be updated.
  • Most banks have tightened up their credit lines to foreigners recently - expect to get next to nothing for 3 years.

Read my post again - recently (in last 18 months) the banks have tightened their lending.
You may not be British but you are an established customer of a bank or banks who know that you would not do a runner with their money - in other words they trust you.
If you had just arrived here you would find it very different.
  • thanks all

Like people said - get on the electoral roll if you can.

Someone said you can register if you have a work visa and are resident - I think that is wrong. You can register to vote in the UK if you are resident and are from the EU or Commonwealth.
