I assume you have used both Waitrose Deliver and Ocado services then, to produce an unbiased opinion?

Waitrose Deliver services more parts of the country than Ocado, as all items are hand picked in-store, whereas Ocado has a (very efficient - see here!) central processing unit which processes orders for the whole country, and the relevant vans/loads are despatched from there - in Hatfield.

Ocado and Waitrose Deliver have very similar prices, yet once Ocado were famously known to undercut Waitrose on their own branded items.

Other than this, not much can be said in terms of difference between the two - Waitrose Deliver normally use liveried Mercedes sprinter LWB chilled vans, whereas Ocado use SWB Mercedes Sprinters with custom chilled boxes on the back, normally in a Silver colour.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to avail myself of delivery from Waitrose, as, although we have a Waitrose in our town, they do not deliver to us.
I am comparing Ocado to Tesco and Sainsburys, although I know the thread is entitled Waitrose versus Ocado.
I am just so happy with Ocado and their service that I felt I had to say so.

;) Felines are my favourite ;)

If you want food picked from the shelves the same as sainsburys, tesco etc then have waitrose deliver.
If you want food direct from a warehouse, with use by dates on your receipt, a guide to average and minimum use by dates shown against the items on the website and a good indication about stock availability then choose Ocado.
I think at the moment Ocado have an exclusive within the M25, don't know what will happen when the current contract is up.

Ah I did wonder why although I live in London near a big Waitrose why they wouldn't deliver, that would explain it!
  • I am about to give Ocado a go having given up on Waitrose Deliver which is a very sub-standard service in my view. I have placed three successive orders with the Crewkerne branch and have not been happy with any of them. The first order that was almost entirely composed of goods within 2 days of their sell-by-date, including broccoli that was actually turning yellow. It was as if the selector had gone round the store picking stuff that was about to be thrown out. The second order was returned to store as teh driver could not find the delivery address. And today's order was not delivered at all, with no email to warn me or explain why. In addition, the website is super slow and user-unfriendly. On all three orders that I placed with this store, at least 20% of the items ordered were not delivered (ie not available) So Ocado, fresh from the warehouse, lets hope you can do better and if so, i don't mind paying for the delivery!

You will not regret the change. I have been exclusively using Ocado for 18months now with no issues at all.
