Google chrome and gif`s

I am using Google Chrome to get on to MSE, ( for some reason it hangs when using IE8) but when I try and put a gif on to my post I just keep getting the words for the address up, ie the picture does not appear. This is really bugging me but I cannot seem to sort it, can anyone please help?
