Old tenants have left their belongings, what can I do???
Comments
-
franklee - the contract ended in January and she moved most of her belongings out, leaving some in the garage. The tenancy agreement ended on 26 January and we discovered she'd moved out on 23rd-25th. I thought if the contract stated 26th Jan as the end date then it means it's ended??? Confused??
Unless she stated in writing that she was moving out and that she did not want to stay on (and assuming you have not asked her to vacate - Section 21?) then she would have gone onto a periodic tenancy. Therefore it's not the case that the tenancy has ended.0 -
Well I never, I had no idea that's how things worked!!! So she neither said she wanted to stay or go so I guess I should get something in writing. Got to be honest though I think I know the response especially going by the texts we've been getting lately!0

If you've got texts implying she's gone then do keep them safe in case you need evidence to support your actions.Well I never, I had no idea that's how things worked!!! We will keep everything from now on. I will also take photos of the stuff left as it's absolute tat but you've got me worried now! Thanks for all your advice - I will certainly be more careful about things in the future - I guess that's what agencies get paid for!0

You would hope, but there are many out there that know no more about renting than an amateur landlord. Agents get the law wrong very frequently.0
